Banana Strawberry Scone

This summer Luke is packing up for a month and heading to South America.  My soon to be 11yr old boy is about to take on the adventure of a lifetime and I'm ready to throw up.  When Josilin was his age she participated in the same program and spent a month in  Denmark.  Somehow we always knew she would get on a plane and head to far off places.  She was born to travel, including her first trip under the age of two when she proudly boarded a plane with Don and didn't even look back at her teary mom left behind.  But Luke?  He's my home body.  My mama's boy. The one who watched Josilin board that plane to Denmark just two short years ago and stated, "don't ever think about signing me up to do something like that!"

Cherry Lemon Scone

We've been helping my mom pack up and move the last few weekends.  Lost in time, we've recovered letters from old boyfriends, VHS tapes of programs we taped, Christmas gifts from 1939 and more than a few things that should have been thrown out 20yrs ago.  It is time for her to move on to new experiences in a smaller home with less of everything.  Less rooms to clean, less empty space to feel, less memories and daily reminders of who was lost from that home.

Chocolate Chili Cranberry Scone

At this stage of the game, there are not too many babies in our life.  Most of our friends have kids close in age to our own and all of our nieces and nephews are way past baby stage.  It amazes me how fast time goes by and how quickly they all grow up.  I held a newborn boy the other day, just one day old.  As I looked down at this beautiful being my heart melted.  All wrinkled like an old man and a body still curled up like he's in his mama's belly, I was smitten.  We are so excited for our friends to become first time parents.  It's truly the best job on this earth.  Holding that baby reminded me just how fleeting time with them is and renewed once again, my desire to make every moment count.  Even when they drive me crazy with messy rooms and forgotten instructions.

Blueberry Whole Grain Ricotta Scone

It will be a sombre week for our family.  We're attending an inquest into the accidental death of a loved one.  Perhaps it will provide some much needed closure or some understanding of how it all transpired.  We don't really know what to expect, but we will go and hope that something positive can come out of it all.

Smokey Date Cheddar Scones

Ever since purchasing Kim Boyce's Good to the Grain I have been inspired to try different flours in my baking.  Some experiments have met with great success while others have been truly a flop.
